Mugs.net was the 'multi-user gaming system network' hosted by Holly Sommer in Austin, TX. It was the service on which both Merc Industries and the NiMUD team were first developing software for the Diku community. The site was shut down in 2008 after an incident involving Google caching sensitive data endangered Holly's standing at her job. This forced her to discontinue offering the service. At one point it Mugs.net was connected to a T1 line, but as interest in the services waned, and as Holly turned to other endeavors, it ran in Holly's bedroom at her parents house for its final 5 years.
