Fate of the Republic is a Star Wars based multi-user dungeon created in 1997. Fate of the Republic uses the SWR game engine and is thus free to play. Roleplaying is enforced; the idea is to develop an interesting character concept, interact with characters controlled by other players and make it evolve in the game.
